3440.43 – Fencing Inside a Circular Field

In a circular field, place three fences to make four regions. The fences are all equal in length, and end on the circular boundary of the field. The four resulting regions have equal area, and the fences don’t intersect within the field. How might these fences look? There are several possibilities.

Solution

This problem is more for approximate visualization rather than precise computation. Some possibilities are illustrated in the figure.
