Leaving homeroom, Maurice heard his name mentioned outside in the hall. He stopped to listen.
“Maurice owns more than five hundred games,” Anne said, her voice full of awe.
“Nonsense. He doesn’t own that many,” was Bruce’s contribution.
“Let’s not argue,” Carson said, “He owns at least one game.”
Maurice stepped into the hall, laughing. “Only one of you is right,” he said. “So much for school gossip!”
If just one of the three statements Maurice overheard is true, which is it and how many video games does he own?
Solution
Out of the three possibilities for the truth of three statements: TFF, FTF, FFT (in which just one is true), only FTF avoids a contradiction. So Bruce was right and Maurice actually owns no video games at all.
